AVS Aggregatebau GmbH

AVS Aggregatebau GmbH, located in the south of Germany, is a manufacturer of diesel
driven generators, combined heat and power units and has a big service department.

The main figures: we’re 150 employees and turnover approx. € 35 Mio/ year. Since 1999
the German Army orders constantly Gensets in the power range between 2 and 500 kVA.
Thereof 1200 pcs 25 kVA, 300 pcs. 50 kVA, 29 pcs. 125 kVA and 25 pcs. 2.5 kVA - All of them
with VSCF-Technology which means ‘Variable Speed Constant Frequency’.

The whole project is called “3 generation of genset”.

What’s different or new and why did the German Army choose the Variable Speed
Constant Frequency (VSCF) Technology to supply their soldiers with this power?

For VSCF we are able to use an all speed engine which is
definitely smaller and lighter than a constant speed engine.

Together with the high efficient PM-Alternator and the PE
we’re able to build smaller and lighter gensets which makes a
big difference for logistics – lower costs.

As well the higher efficiency reduces fuel consumption and
service costs.

Of course, all the other NATO standards are included like for climate, shock, vibration,
EMC, EMP fuel and so on are included.

Last year we made a development for the Armasuisse (Swiss Armed Forces). The demand
was for a light Diesel driven APU (auxiliary power unit) with 5kW.

The requirements were charging all kind of batteries, supply of 24V DC applications and
as APU in vehicles with automatic start stop.
